Hi all,

Just a quick look at the gearing for a drag turbine.  Gear ratio is at 80:1.

Hi Don,
This looks like progress. You are working on one of the more difficult aspects of drag turbines (as you well know) and that is converting energy from a high torque device to useful shaft work. Will you be coupling this to the generator you posted about last year?

Jack
Hi Jack,

Yes we are coupling the Ginlong PMG to the paddle wheel. I should have some pictures late this afternoon or tomorrow morning of the completed setup. We have hand spun the wheel and the generator really spins up to speed. Still have a couple of items left before deployment- 1) gearing and generator enclosure, without this one slip and people could loose body parts. 2) Putting on the wind shroud so that the current and wind are not fighting each other when there are down river winds. (this is how we think the axle busted last year)

River is really low this year. While most of the ice has past but there still is about 20feet of shore ice pushed up on the banks. Pretty sure we will be deployed by June.

Just got the Pictures. Looks like they got the shroud on. Its not beautiful but its strong and simple.

Don

Don,
This looks encouraging. I am with you on strong and simple.

I look forward to some kW-hr numbers, if you get a respectable output coupled with longevity, you have a winner.

Cheers,
Jack
