Event Description

The City of Akutan is presently developing what could be the first commercial-scale geothermal energy plant in Alaska. The plant could provide power and heat to the town of Akutan and to the Trident  Seafoods fish processing facility. The City of Akutan has performed geophysical and geochemical exploration in Hot Springs Valley, and, in 2010, drilled two exploratory wells, encountering 359-degree water at shallow depths. Come hear the latest on this project and the role it could play in the use of geothermal power in Alaska. Presented by Renewable Energy Alaska Project (REAP). Speakers are Ray Mann and Amanda Kolker. More info at www.REalaska.org, 907.929.7770.
